GW has lost it. Here are 3 Space Marine Centurions that retail for $78. That's $26 per figure. Really...really. They remind me of Those Sumo Suits that people wear. Pretty bad.

PlasmaBlast Games, Progenitor, Orbital Combine

It seems that a lot of gamers are sort of mixed about how to base their 6mm infantry and vehicles if at all.  Last night I decided to really think about the best way to go about doing this and I think I have come up with some good solutions.

Normal Sized Infantry - base them 3 to 5 per stand using a 40x15mm stand.
Large Infantry - base them 1 to 3 per stand using a 40x20mm stand
Small Vehicles - base them 2 to 3 per stand using a 40x20mm stand.
Large Vehicles - base them 1 per stand using a 30x40mm stand.
Very Large Vehicles/Monsters - Here I think you can use either square or round bases.  For Vehicles

I will probably opt for either a 40x40mm stand or larger.  For Monsters I tend to like round bases and I am thinking 40mm or 50mm should be sufficient.
Below are some samples of Plasmablast Games vehicles for both the Progenitor and Orbital Combine forces.

Xmarx - Armored Train

A few years back I received a train from Brian Slack of Xmarx.com.  The train is designed for 6mm-15mm game play.  I found the train to be perfect in both scales.  The armored train consists of an Engine and 3 rail cars (Engine, Supply Car, Passenger Rail Car and Passenger Rail Car with Gun).  The train is resin cast and each train or engine comes with 4 pieces (Upper Body, Lower Body with wheels, front and rear bumpers).

Hawk Wargames, Dropzone Commander, 2 Player Set

Yesterday a package arrived from Hawk Wargames. Wrapped up all nice and neat was the new 10mm Dropzone Commander 2 player set.

Wow! Hawk Wargames really did a bang up job with this set. Rather than go the resin route, they now have plastic injected molded spruces and IMO this a huge improvement as far as mold lines and how things fit together. The plastic appears to be really clean and perfect for modeling.

The buildings, markers and blast templates are made from card stock and time will tell how well these hold up.

The set comes with a beautiful colored rulebook, with lots of painted examples of the various vehicles.  There are also directions on how to assemble each vehicle and quick start fast play sheets and scenarios for game play.

The set contains 2 different Armies, the United Colonies of Mankind and the Scourge.  I prefer the look of the humans, but I am quite certain the Scourge has their fans.  These are basic starting forces and it makes the perfect entry point into the Dropzone Commander universe.

The United Colonies of Mankind Starter Force
  • 3x Sabre Main Battle Tanks
  • 3x Rapier AA Tanks
  • 2x Bear APC’s (+1 bonus spare!)
  • 30x Colonial Legionnaires (on 6 bases)
  • 3x Condor Medium Dropships (now with clear canopy and pilot!)
The Scourge Starter Force
  • 3x Hunter Main Grav-Tanks
  • 3x Reaper AA Grav-Tanks
  • 2x Invader APC’s (+1 bonus spare!)
  • 30x Scourge Warriors (on 6 bases)
  • 3x Marauder Medium Dropships
Also included as you can see from images below is a complete urban battlefield.  The battlefields are designed from poster layouts and pre-cut, pre-folded card stock buildings.

What you get
  • 2x Urban Streets Posters, will join together in 4 different ways to create a 48”x33” road
  • layout10 x Pre-cut, pre-folded card buildings in 10 different designs
With this set you have everything you need to throw down and play Dropzone Commander.

The game retails for £60.00 or about $95, which for what is included, seems like an excellent deal these days.

There is a really cool gaming company out there called Heresy Miniatures (http://www.heresyminiatures.com/shop)with some great sculpts for 28mm game play.

If you're into any Sci-Fi or Post-Apocalyptic adventures they are certainly worth a look.

I ordered their Sharclon Officer and a few Sharclon troopers because I thought they would make perfect Superhero type villains.

Anyone who is into Fantasy WWI, might also want to checkout Hasslefree’s WW1 Halflings and Blackhat’s WW1 Goblin & Halfling ranges. I think these guys would certainly be perfect for them. Hmmm Maybe I should contact each company for a few samples for comparisons.

Check them out at Khurasan Miniatures.

The guys over at Clockwork Goblin Miniatures sent out some really great samples of their miniature line and I just received them. I don't have pictures yet, but I plan on posting some later tonight or early this week. If you like Alternate WWII or Weird WWII you will love their figures. Currently they have vehicles and troopers for both German and the US. The British will soon see some automated infantry. They have also created Quake turrets for Russian T-34s and for the Brits, shield turrets.

These turrets are great because they allow you to convert Flames of War, Forge In Battle or a host of other manufactures of 15mm WW2 vehicles into Alternate WWII killing machines.

While you wait, check out their beta rule set for them called Conflikt. http://www.clockworkgoblinminis.co.uk/downloads.html

Also to wet your appetite check out our previous post on Clockwork Goblin Miniatures

Clockwork Goblin Miniatures - Power Infantry

Currently all the infantry coming from Clockwork Goblin Miniatures are metal. The figures come on a long metal strip without metal bases like Flames Of War or Forged In Battle.  The figures came with lots of detail and just a little bit of flash that can easily be removed.  The figures look just right for power armor troopers, towering over normal infantry.

Here are a bunch of pictures of the Clockwork Goblin Miniatures (Heavy Infantry) that give you an idea of scale.

Dystopian Wars Prussian Metzger Walker.  I think it fits in perfectly with the Clockwork troopers.  I imagine it is driven by a walker crew of 2.

US Heavy Infantry, British Paratrooper (Flames of War), US Infantryman (Forged In Battle) and Maybe a Peter Pig British figure.

Denis at Heer46 has a cool little thing going with his 15mm tank and vehicle accessories.  Right now he has several designs out for various German prototype tanks that were on the design blocks, but maybe due to resources or other reasons were not massed produced.  These were the E-75 and E-100 series.  The E-100s are much larger than even the King Tigers.  With thick armor and massive guns.  These would have been terrifying behemoths for allied tanks to go up against.

Since many of these designs are a little off from what Flames Of Wars folks have been used to seeing, they fit perfectly into a Weird War or alternate WWII setting.  Check out and buy the Heer46 line or visit the Heer46 Blog

Clockwork Goblin Miniatures - Heavy Mech Panzer Thor

Here are some close ups of the Clockwork Goblin Miniatures Heavy Mech Panzer named "Thor".  The vehicle retails for £15.50.  The resin and detail on this vehicle is top notch.  I plan on drilling a hole for the gun barrel and probably using magnets to attach the turret.  The legs fit nice and snug into the leg sockets (3rd image).  I would rate this vehicle a 9 or 10 based on what I have seen.  You will need to file off just a little bit of flash, but much.

Once this sucker is built, I will post up some comparison shots.

Here is the Clockwork Goblin Miniatures Tesla Turret that was designed for the US Sherman tank. The turret is built upon the M4A3 76mm turret and should be compatible with all manufacturers' hulls.  Below are some Battlefront Shermans and some of their turrets along with the Tesla turret.

Here is Clockwork Goblin Miniatures Us Coyote Light Walker. Great looking resin / metal figure.

The Coyote body is resin and comes with an assortment of metal parts including 1 top mounted weapon (Browning M2 HMG), 2 arms and a search light and 2 other items I am not sure what the heck they are.  As you can see from the pictures below the the figure stands about twice the height of a power armored trooper.

Clockwork Goblin Miniatures, US Grizzly

Here is the Clockwork Goblin Miniatures US heavy walker called the Grizzly. Of all the Clockwork Goblin Miniatures I assembled, I found this one the most difficult.

For the main gun, I had to drill out a hole. For the leg & arm attachments I used some green stuff along with glue. By green stuff I mean that modeling puddy or Kneadatite Epoxy Modeling Putty where you mix two colors (Usually yellow and blue, which when combined makes a green color.) The green stuff makes the parts stick to other parts and then allows the glue to dry.  I use this method a lot.  I suppose I could have also pinned the arms and legs, but the green stuff is much easier to use.
